New hair, new outfit.

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

It’s been a little while since I uploaded a gothic lolita outfit post, so here’s some photos of what I wore this weekend.

The best full-body shot I could get was on the stairs, in the full-length mirror. Not the best ever, but you see the general idea:

It’s my old faithful black and white skirt again!

recently, on the EGL communities there was a lot of distaste expressed for black socks with white shoes, but honestly I like it.

I changed my hair. It’s pink underneath now instead of blue. And I curled it instead of straightening it, just for a little variety.

The next photo is another face-shot, because just before leaving I decided to change the bow I was wearing. So here’s the same thing, but with different head wear (and I have my coat on).

A quick photo of the full effect, with coat.

Sorry, for the sulky face, totally unintentional!

I have one more bonus photo, which was accidental and wrong, but still turned out quite itneresting and I like it anyway.

How regal, how suave! If only I knew how to do that whenever I wanted! :p

Dance in the Vampire Bund

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

This is a new anime series that I recently started watching. produced by SHAFT. (SHAFT also produced the massively popular Bakemonogatari)

vampbund

The vampires in Vampire Bund cannot walk in sunlight, unless they are wearing a special gel that allows them to (essentially, really strong sunscreen, right?). And they do have the power to transform into various huge, violent beasties like spiders and lizards to fight each other.

“Dance in the Vampire Bund” is about vampires coming out and making themselves known to humans as their leader, the Princess Mina Tepes, is trying to create a land just for vampires off the coast of Japan.
This is quite interesting as it deals with the modern public, and how they would react to discovering that vampires are real. And there are a few clever twists as princess mina makes plans to have vampires live alongide (or take over?) human beings.

There are elements of clan rivalry between vampires both human and vampire policitics, human military involvement and smaller-scale tension between humans and vampires.

In true Anime style, there are elements of both drama and comedy. Predictably, the vampire princess transferrs to the main boy’s school, at home she is served by three old-fashioned maids, and there are frequent typical outlandish battles with increasingly powerful enemies.

There is some contoversy over Princess Mina, as she is a child character, who appears naked, or partially so, quite often.

As with most modern vampire stories, where there are vamps there must also be werewolves. However, the two don’t seem to be rivals or anything in this series..

overall, I like it so far because dealing with vampires coming out into the human world is interesting to see.

“Thirst” film review.

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

It is no secret that I love really cheesy, old horror movies, and pretty much anything about vampires.

Recently, I watched the 1979 movie “Thirst”. It had all the makings of a really good, bad-vampire-film. It was directed by Rod Hardy and written by John Pinkey, and the film won “Best Special Effects” at the Catalonian International Film Festival in 1979….

The plot is basically about the last direct descendant of Elizabeth Bathory, a woman named Kate. She is a vampire and doesn’t know it, and other vampires kidnap her away to their secret hideout to have her join them. But first they leave a milk carton full of blood in her fridge.
Kate doesn’t take to drinking blood, and doesn’t want to be a vampire (do they ever? lol). She tries to escape, and the vampires try to brainwash her and keep her captive.
Some parts, including the escape scene and brainwashing horror scene, were quite like some comon nightmares and were quite tense in that respect.

The vampires keep a Blood Farm, in which humans were kept like cattle and herded off in groups to be bled by strange ‘futuristic’ blood-sucking machines. This reminds me of the novel “Piggies” by Nick Gifford, which I read when I was quite young. It was also about humans being kept on a blood farm by vampires, but from the point of view of the humans.

Here’s a screenshot of the blood farm:

Main character, Kate, is suitably disgusted by all this.

Vampires in “Thirst” can walk around in the daylight. They don’t seem to have any superhuman abilities like strength or speed. But their eyes glow red when they’re about to bite someone.
They don’t have permanent fangs.

Here’s my favourite scene from this movie. I like it purely for how memorable it is. Old Lady Vampire!

The glowing red eyes really set off those glasses, don’t they?

Character Pages

Monday, February 8th, 2010

It’s about time I got started on some Sanguis City related updated, so here we go!

I’ve added some preliminary character pages to the site to give the basics about SC’s main vampires. So far only 3 out of the 7 have images, and the details are sparse, but i will be updating them as much as possible over the next few months with more information and pictures :)
