“Lich” (resident demon)

Monday, June 21st, 2010

To my way of thinking, a really lame vampire movie is the best kind of movie.
This movie was so bad… it was truly horrific. Is it even technically a vampire movie? I don’t think it is actually, but it’s still awful, and I still watched it!

The basic plot is as follows:
“Three years ago a string of serial slayings ended, when the young woman behind them put herself to death while bathing in the blood of her victims. The woman’s sister pleaded with the authorities to take measures against the return of her sister’s spirit, claiming that her death had been a part of a ritualk to the Devil! The young girl was placed in a insane assylum, their home possessed, and her sister all but forgotten… untill now. The new owners of their house unwittingly release the long dead spirit, soon it’s leaping form body to body possessing, killing and feeding! As the numbers dwindle each person can only wonder, are you, you, or you… the LICH?”

BASICALLY. This house is haunted by a devil worshiping serial killer who killed herself, and the spirit has come back and is body-hopping around the house, killing other people.

Now, what is there to say about this film? Other than… my friends and I have made better movies on our camera phones, accidentally, while drunk.
The writing is a disaster.
There’s… just.. no atmosphere at all.
It looks like it was filmed on a handycam.
The “twists” are frustratingly obvious, and the characters painfully oblivious and wooden.
Towards the end, there’s a magic pendant suddenly thrown in, and the demon controlling corpses.

It was hillarious for the first little while. Then it got dull, fast. It stopped being so-dull-it’s-funny, to just being so dull, it’s DULL.
There was redeeming feature. The cat!
pooflah
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Pooflah. Yes, POOFLAH, the cat.
At one point (oh, warning, slight spoiler lmao), the demon posesses the cat. And when the others finally work this out there’s what I can only assume was ment to be a dramatic realisation when the cat’s owner shouts.. “Pooflah!”
The cat could have been called “fluffykin” and that scene would have been more dramatic.
Apart from the obvious amusement, “pooflah” sounds so.. fluffy and jokey. It’s like a joke cat name.

That was the only thing in the film worth writing about.

From now on, I’m going to referr to any very weak ‘dramatic’ scenes as pooflah’s.

At least Pooflah was kinda cute, the rest of the film was dire :)

Lolita swimming costumes

“You can learn a lot of things from the flowers,
for especially in the month of June.
There’s a wealth of happiness and romance,
all in the golden afternoon. …”

And it IS June. And very, very warm. Infact, it’s what a lot of people would call “beach weather”!
Now, as boring as it may be I’m a typical little goth when it comes to summer. I don’t like the bright sunlight in my eyes, and I get heat rash on my legs and faint easily when it’s too hot.
Beaches are a nightmare, too much sand and saltwater stinging your skin.
I don’t even like ice cream.

infact, I might be the Grinch of summer.

A key issue for Lolita in summer is swimsuits. We spend the rest of the year trussed up, in blouses and petticoats and proper headwear. To suddenly strip down to something the size of MODERN underwear, and wear it in public… is a frightful idea.
Especially for those of us who aren’t body-confident (lolita or not).

Brands do make swimming suits occasionally. Baby the Stars Shine Bright and Metamorphose have both made swimwear. But they’re usually just bikinis with one of the brands prints on it.
Yes, they’re adoreable. And perfect if you have the money and confidence for them! (If I did, I would!)

But most of us don’t.

Victorian swimwear was different. Impractical, probably. But much cuter, and more modest.
Vswimsuit1

Look at that, with the little mop-cap and skirt!

vswimsuit2

If I could get a swimsuit like that, maybe I’d go swimming just to get the chance to wear it!
(Even the stripey gentlemans swimsuit would do. A girl-sized replica of that would be so cute)

So far, I’ve found replica Victorian swimwear on “http://www.ladiesemporium.com” to be the cutest and most affordable.
Maybe next year I’ll save my money in spring and buy a swimsuit like this for summer!

Then, lets go swimming! (Last one in the water is a rotten egg!)

Lolita Style Icon

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

There have been a lot of posts recently on the LiveJournal community about Lolita Style Icons. They’ve all been quite interesting, especially the ones that take inspiration from Non-Lolita sources and make it work with the fashion!
So this notion has been running through my head. Who is my Lolita Icon?
And I think it’s Wednesday Addams!
Here’s some pictures, before I explain my choice:
Photobucket
(Lisa Loring as Wednesday Addams in the 1960’s TV show)

Photobucket
(Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams in the popular 1990’s Movies)

When I was younger, I was told I resembled Wednesday Addams. And I suppose I did! If my hair got long enough, I tied it in pig tails, and nearly always wore dresses.
Then I grew into the gothic/new victorian style as a teenager, which eventually led naturally to the discovery of Lolita Fashion.
I like to believe my personal style toes the line between Gothic and Classical Lolita. Or at least, that’s the kind of style I go for, and Wednesday Addams is the epitome of a cute, gothic little girl in old fashioned clothes!

That’s why she’s my Lolita Style Icon.

(A few years ago, my parents, brother and I went to a halloween party as the Addams Family, naturally, I was Wednesday. If i can find any photos of it they’ll be added to this post!)

May, in two outfits.

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

I know, it’s June now. But these are photos from May.

lolita,baby the stars
(sorry about the bad photo, best i could do!)
This is as close as I’ll get to Sailor or Sweet loli, due to the big pink sailor collar! But I LOVE it. Very spring/summer I think. Also it wasn’t too warm despite the cardigan, because the dress itself is so light.
(The cardigan was a must, because the dress is much too big aroudn the chest T_T woe is me).

Since I was going to be walking a lot, I wore flat brouges instead of delicate shoes. There isn’t a law against a Lolita wearing a Kodona’s ankle boots, is there? I hope not! if there is, I broke it.

Here’s a detail shot of my necklace:
lolita,baby the stars
This is my absolute favourite necklace, because not only is it beautiful. It is vintage, and was left to me by my Grandmother. She had some amazing taste in clothes and jewlery, and I was onyl recently old enough to appreciate the things of hers I was given after she died.
So here’s to Grannie Madeline, keeping the girls of the family fashionable! <3

The dress is by Cornet,
Cardigan by Emily Temple
Socks are metamorphose
Headbow is Heart E

The second outfit, I wore to a meetup a few weeks ago!
lolita,baby the stars
(Alice! You’re so TALL, or is that fire place actually very SMALL? Gosh..)
haha, I love this outfit.
redently, long bloomers have been a fascination of mine. i think they’re cute, visible under a dress.
here’s a detail shot of the print
lolita,baby the stars
Does anyone know the name of this print? It’s a Baby The stars Shine Bright one, and an impulse buy from harajuku closet child, so i don’t know it’s name! But I LOVE it.

And my cute accessory, “Mona”
lolita,baby the stars
“Mona”, the tiny bunny-bag is named after Montserrat Lombard, who is the actress that played Shaz in Ashes to Ashes.

Dress and Bag from Baby The Stars Shine bright
The Heart E hairbow again (how useful are plain coloured hair bows? Amazingly so)
everything else is offbrand.

I hope you like my May Styles.

Ero Lolita

Friday, May 28th, 2010

“Ero Loli”, short for Erotic Lolita is a hard style to get right. As a rule, Lolita fashion should not be eriotic, or sexy in any way. It should just be cute and innocent.
So, ero Loli isn’t really ‘ero’ in the sense most people would expect. It’s a flash of bloomers, Wearing your corset on the outide, maybe even high heeled shoes?
It’s ‘daring’, if a victorian girl were to be daring.
To me, it sounds like a fashion challenge! Can you be sweet and innocent while still flashing your underthings? Well, if your underthings are as long and frilly as a Lolita’s, maybe you can!

I recently bought a corset, a proper one. And decided to try my hand at Ero Loli.

Bloomers! and almost KNEES. Whatever next?

Gosh. I hope your sensitive selves were okay with all that ;)

Gothic Alice

Friday, May 28th, 2010

The good old “Gothic Alice” look is one that many people love, and many people love to hate.
But as for me, myself.. personally…. I never could resist a gothic Alice.

Come throught that tiny door, show us what you’re wearing today :)

Another Black and White outfit from me! But winter is over, so maybe I should wear less black in spring.

Hair and makeup. I’ve been taking makeup tips from a friend. Can you tell?

New hair, new outfit.

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

It’s been a little while since I uploaded a gothic lolita outfit post, so here’s some photos of what I wore this weekend.

The best full-body shot I could get was on the stairs, in the full-length mirror. Not the best ever, but you see the general idea:

It’s my old faithful black and white skirt again!
feb18skirt
recently, on the EGL communities there was a lot of distaste expressed for black socks with white shoes, but honestly I like it.
Face photo!

I changed my hair. It’s pink underneath now instead of blue. And I curled it instead of straightening it, just for a little variety.

The next photo is another face-shot, because just before leaving I decided to change the bow I was wearing. So here’s the same thing, but with different head wear (and I have my coat on).

A quick photo of the full effect, with coat.

Sorry, for the sulky face, totally unintentional!

I have one more bonus photo, which was accidental and wrong, but still turned out quite itneresting and I like it anyway.

How regal, how suave! If only I knew how to do that whenever I wanted! :p

Happy Pancake Day!

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

I realised that I never post about everyday life anymore, and that’s probably because now that I’m not living in Japan I personally don’t find everyday life very interesting.
Mostly, I’ve been looking for jobs with little to no success. Over the last 3 months I’ve had uncountable rejection letters, and two interviews, neither of which came to anything. Still, the hunt continues!

Today, is Pancake Day. And pancakes are arguably my favourite food ever. So, this morning for breakfast I had pancakes:
pancakes
Yes, that is one strawberry pancake, and one bacon pancake.
And the same again, except bigger, for lunch!

Yesterday, I went to the UK Premiere screening of the new Evangelion films; Eva 1.0 and Eva 2.0.
Being and Eva newbie, I can’t compare it to the original, but I can say that it was pretty fantastic and I enjoyed it fully. There was a lot of people there, and a lot of familiar faces from other events and such. There was a great atmosphere, and everyone seemed very impressed by the films. (and so they should! They were great)
There are mixed opinions on the new character, Makinami Mari, but I personally really liked her.
Here’s a wee head-and-shoulders image of her with her pink plug suit and red glasses.
Mari
you know, my glasses were very similar to those.

Over the weekend, I went with Bry and his friend Steven, who was visiting from fife to Glasgow Cathedral and the Necropolis. Despite being from this city, I’d only been to the catchedral once before and I’d never been to the Necropolis before, so it was quite interesting.
Wikipedia informs me that the necropolis has aproximately 3500 tombs in it.
Quite impressive I think.

Qutie Land Boots.

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

I’d been looking for new boots for quite some time, since last autumn my last pair of knee-high boots had a terrible accident and were ruined.
So after months of looking around aimlessly, I realised I wanted black and white ones. This pair from Qutie Land ( http://www.qutieland.com) fitted the bill;
http://www.qutieland.com/product.php?id=57

Since they have a black and white option in the drop-down menu. Now, I was always wary of sites that made things to order, and replica companies in general. Mostly due to the endless stream of size problem posts that the EGL community gets from girls who have ordered clothes and they haven’t been made properly. And I know a lot of others are worried about this too! Which is why I am making this small review.
I really wanted these boots, so I decided to take the chance and order them.
The standard size fits me, so there was no custom sizing. Sorry I can’t review from that perspective. However, they are still made to order. I was a little extra nervous, since the black and white colour combo isn’t shown, so I had to just hope they’d be the in the same pattern as the red ones.

The communications with Qutie Land went brilliantly, they kept in touch at every stage of the process and all their messages were clear.

Counting production time, they took just over a month to reach me, which is quite outstanding since they ask 20 working days to make each pair. It was a long wait, but I was expecting that.

The boots arrived to me last week, the box they arrived in was slightly bashed, but that’s the postal system for you.
bootsbox

Inside, they were perfect. And are very solid and well made shoes! Here they are:
boots
The laces are exceptionally long, but do work so you can tighten or loosen them if you need to. You can see that the toe is quite solid and the soles are thick.
Also, the black and white pattern is exactly what I was looking for! :)

The only negative thing is that the cuffs around the tops of the boots are NOT detachable. They are shown detached on the website, and they are described as detachable on Ebay, but they are not on my pair. They close by velcro on the inside, and are glued on. Assuming they were detachable, I almost peeled them off by accident, so the glue isn’t very strong. But that is easy to sort out, and isn’t a problem considering the overall good quality of these boots.

They are also extremely comfortable, I wore them every day last weekend and they did not become uncomfortable at all.

Here are some detail shots:

Overall, I am very happy with these, and will deffinately consider shopping from Qutie Land again.

Start as you mean to continue!

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

I started this year as I mean to continue, so here’s some more Lolita.

lolita,classic,sweet,harajuku
Now, I had some trouble taking photos of the full outfit. This shot shows my blue eye makeup (to match my hair, sort of ;) ), Mary Magdalene katyusha and neck bow.
I like that hair band a lot, because it doesn’t hurt my head. They usually do, but this one is very flexible!

Now, as much as the white-door background works for showing off photos, it gets boring if I have the same setting for all my photos doesn’t it? Unfortunately there wasn’t really any other suitable places. But determination made me go for a different angle, and this is the most interesting photo I had that still showed off my skirt:
Photobucket
The neck bow was originally attached to this skirt, but they make a lovely set seperated.

And the shoes:
lolita,classic,sweet,harajuku
Metamorphose high heels. They’re cute and comfy, I plan on wearing these as much as possible in the future!

My usual style is this black-and-white, classical look. It suits me, and I do like it.
But sometimes you just have to mix it up! So this is what I wore to my friend’s birthday party:
lolita,classic,sweet,harajuku
(pokerface! get it?)
Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo of the whole outfit, but I’m wearing a red angelic pretty JSK, black and red rose socks and red heeled shoes with this hair and makeup.
I like to think that the giant Metamorphose bow works with the pink wig, it looks a little out of balance with my usual short hair.
